Radd al-Madhalim is a responsibility — an act of justice that allows you to return what is owed and seek spiritual clarity. At The Zahra Trust, we facilitate this process with care and integrity, ensuring your Radd al-Madhalim is distributed appropriately when the rightful recipient cannot be identified.
Through your contribution, you fulfil an important obligation while supporting those in need — bringing relief to vulnerable communities and peace to your conscience.
"Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due."
— Qur'an 4:58
An Obligation of Justice
Radd al-Madhalim refers to the act of repaying or returning wealth, rights, or property that were wrongfully taken — whether knowingly or unknowingly.
If the person who was wronged cannot be identified or reached, this responsibility can be fulfilled by giving the equivalent amount in charity on their behalf.
It is a means of restoring balance, correcting past actions, and fulfilling a duty rooted in justice and accountability.
Preparing to give
Before giving Radd al-Madhalim, the following steps should be taken.
Attempt to locate the individual and return what is owed directly.
Calculate the amount taken or make a fair and honest estimate if uncertain.
Repent sincerely and make the intention not to repeat the action.
As an obligatory precaution, approval from your religious authority is required before proceeding.

Everything you need to know about fulfilling this obligation with The Zahra Trust.
Radd al-Madhalim is the act of repaying or returning rights, property, or wealth wrongfully taken, whether knowingly or unknowingly, in accordance with Islamic justice. When the wronged party cannot be identified or located, you can fulfil your obligation by giving charity on their behalf. This act restores balance, compensates for the harm, and allows you to clear your conscience, earn spiritual reward, and transform the lives of those in need.
There are four things: 1) Make a genuine effort to identify the wronged party and return what is rightfully theirs. 2) Determine the amount or value of what was wrongfully taken, and if unsure, make a reasonable estimate. 3) Seek forgiveness from Allah (SWT) and intend not to repeat the mistake. 4) As an obligatory precaution, receive permission from your marja (religious authority) before giving Radd al-Madhalim.
Radd al-Madhalim is an obligation and an opportunity to purify your wealth and soul. It allows you to correct any mistakes or injustices you may have unknowingly committed, offering a way to seek forgiveness while helping the vulnerable. As you restore the rights of others, you bring balance and fairness back into the world, creating a ripple effect of compassion and justice.
Transparency & Accountability: every Radd al-Madhalim donation is meticulously tracked and reported to ensure it reaches those who are eligible. Global Reach: we work across regions facing extreme hardship, including Iraq, Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and beyond, delivering aid directly to the most vulnerable. Sustainable Impact: our focus goes beyond immediate relief — we foster long-term solutions such as clean water, housing, education, and skills training.
Every act of sadaqa makes a difference. Together, we can continue delivering support, restoring stability, and building a stronger future for vulnerable communities worldwide.
