Ghadeer: The Living Responsibility Every Believer Carries Today

Every year, Eid al-Ghadeer reminds us of one of the most defining moments in Islamic history.

Yet Ghadeer was never meant to remain a historical event remembered once a year.

It was a divine declaration that placed a lasting responsibility upon every generation of believers.

Ghadeer was not only the appointment of Imam Ali (as).

It was the completion of guidance and the beginning of a trust that continues to shape our faith today.

To honour Ghadeer is not simply to celebrate it.

It is to carry its message through our actions, our choices, and our commitment to truth.

The Declaration at Ghadeer

At Ghadeer Khumm, Allah (swt) revealed:

“O the Messenger (saww)! Deliver (the message) that has been revealed to you from your Lord; for if you do not (deliver it), then (your mission will be incomplete, it will be as if) you have not delivered His message (at all). (In delivering this message, do not fear anyone as) Allah (swt) will protect you from the people. Allah (swt) does not guide the unbelieving people.”

Surah Al-Ma’idah, Ayah 67

This command led to the public declaration of Imam Ali’s (as) wilayah

The Prophet (saww) announced:

“O people, of whoever I am the master, this Ali (as) also is his master. O Allah (swt), befriend one who befriends him, and hate one who hates him. Help one who helps him, and forsake one who forsakes him.”

Al-Amali of Shaykh Mufid, a.7, h.2

This was not simply praise.

It was the clear appointment of divinely guided leadership.

The Completion of Religion Through Wilayah

After this declaration, Allah (swt) revealed:

“Today I have perfected your religion for you, I have completed My blessing (of guidance) upon you, and I have approved Islam as a religion for you.”

Surah Al-Ma’idah, Ayah 3

This verse shows that faith was perfected through the completion of guidance.

Ghadeer teaches us that divine guidance did not end with the Prophet (saww)

It continued through Imam Ali (as) and the line of Imams from the Ahlulbayt (as).

Wilayah is therefore not an abstract belief.

It is the living framework through which truth is preserved.

The Responsibility We Carry Today

The message of Ghadeer demands action.

It calls us to seek knowledge, understand the teachings of the Ahlulbayt (as), and pass this understanding to future generations.

It calls us to embody justice, sincerity, and compassion in our homes, communities, and daily conduct.

It also calls us to remain firm upon truth, even when it is difficult.

The Prophet’s (saww) prayer, asking Allah (swt) to help those who support Imam Ali (as), reminds us that allegiance is proven through action.

To live Ghadeer today is to allow its principles to shape the way we speak, serve, and stand for what is right.

Ghadeer and Preparing for Imam al-Mahdi (ajtfs)

The declaration of Ghadeer began a chain of wilayah that continues today through Imam al-Mahdi (ajtfs), the living Imam of our time

Preparing for his return is part of carrying the responsibility of Ghadeer.

This preparation is not passive.

It requires spiritual growth, moral discipline, and sincere readiness to uphold justice.

True loyalty to Ghadeer means living in a way that makes us worthy of answering the call of Imam al-Mahdi (ajtfs).

Covenant in Action

Ghadeer is not merely an event to remember.

It is a covenant to uphold through action.

Eid al-Ghadeer is a day of loyalty, unity, and responsibility.

Loyalty is not only spoken; it is lived.

To honour the wilayah is to let that allegiance shape how we serve others.

True love for the Ahlulbayt (as) is reflected in visible care for people.

This Eid al-Ghadeer, let our celebration become action.

Support families facing hardship and give in a way that reflects the justice and compassion taught by Imam Ali (as)

Celebrate Ghadeer with impact.

Give in honour of this sacred day, and let your loyalty be felt.
